Reasons why Ewan's Classroom is best suited to support your study needs:
Experienced Nautical Lecturer
I have accumulated years of sea going experience on an extensive array of ship types and trades. This includes General cargo coasters, Reefer, Product tankers, VLCCs, Container and Cape sized Bulk carriers. During this time I obtained my certification culminating in my UK Class 1 Master Mariners’ (FG) Certificate of Competency.
My working life ashore has broadened my professional experience with time spend in the Port Operations and Shipping Sales departments for Nedlloyd Agencies as well as a Marine Officer for The Bristol Port Company.
I started teaching at Fleetwood Nautical Campus of Blackpool and the Fylde College in 2006 and earned a Professional Certificate in Education from the University of Lancaster before moving to Liverpool John Moores University in 2010. There I achieved my MSc in Maritime Operations alongside my lecturing commitments.
Throughout my lecturing career I have specialised in the provision of SQA Navigation and Stability modules, together with the challenging and enjoyable addition of Master’s Compass. Although all of this teaching has been at Chief Mates’ level, I have successfully expanded my portfolio to include teaching OOW SQA in recent years.
Expert face to Face Tuition
The Zoom platform provides all of our students with live face to face tuition whilst maintaining the dynamic of a classroom environment. After all, we can all learn from each other.
Multimedia Teaching Tools
We employ all of the usual teaching methods that can be found in a standard classroom.
Students will benefit from tuition material being presented in a variety of visual media best suited to each.
People learn in different ways and this multi-method approach is intended to reach and benefit all students.
Traditional whiteboard teaching methods continue alongside modern electronic counterparts to ensure full coverage of the material in an easy to understand way.
Proven teaching methods
I have been lecturing nautical science subjects since 2006 and have always been involved in the delivery of MCA/SQA exam subjects to both Chief Mates and OOW students.
I have taught students of all abilities and experiences with a proven record of success.
I use a direct, no nonsense approach to teaching which when mixed with a keen sense of humour is likely to keep students attention throughout.
